Local 1247 Floor Layers Make Historic Run at Annual LA/OC Building Trades Softball Tournament
On August 16th, the 21st Annual LA/OC Building Trades Softball Tournament brought trades from across the region together for a day of competition, family, and union camaraderie — and for Local 1247 Floor Layers, it was one to remember.
This year, our team made history by advancing to the Championship Round — the farthest Local 1247 has ever gone in the tournament.
Adding to the excitement, the team looked sharp in brand-new baseball jerseys provided by the District Council — and LMCC contributed SoCal Floor Layers logo hats to complete the look. The combination of crisp jerseys and custom hats made Local 1247 not only a force on the field, but also one of the most stylish teams in the tournament.
A Tournament to Remember
The path to the championship wasn’t easy. One of the most thrilling moments came in the second round of the playoffs, when the team trailed by five runs going into the final inning. With grit and determination, Local 1247 stormed back to secure a comeback victory that kept their championship hopes alive. The atmosphere at Big League Dreams in Chino Hills was electric, with the sounds of bats cracking and cheers echoing across the ballpark. Families came out in support, creating lasting memories off the field as well. Players enjoyed spending time with loved ones between games — whether it was hanging out, sharing food, or watching kids go wild on the playgrounds. Standout performances fueled the team’s success, including Iseiah Barbosa’s clutch home run, which gave the floor layers a much-needed spark at the plate.
Looking Ahead
When asked what they enjoyed most about the day, the team’s answer was simple: “Playing softball and just hanging out. ”Facing off against other trades from across LA and Orange County added to the excitement. “It felt good to compete against them — and even better to win,” another player added with a smile.
But beyond the fun, the tournament left Local 1247 hungry for more. Next year, the floor layers hope to see even more support from fellow union members in the stands. “It would be nice having more coworkers and union members come out and cheer us on,” one player said.
As for their goals? The team is already setting their sights high: “Make fewer mistakes — and WIN IT ALL next year.”
